Tasmanian businesses still eligible to claim payroll tax waiver

​Tasmanian businesses in the tourism and hospitality businesses may be eligible for a waiver on their payroll tax bill in the September and December 2021 quarters.
To be eligible, your business must:
​

• have employees in the tourism, hospitality or ancillary industry
• be able to show that your business had a 30% reduction in turnover in the September 2021 quarter compared to either the September 2019 or 2020 quarter, and
• meet one of the following 3 conditions in the 2020–21 financial year:
  • not grouped and only paid wages in Tasmania
  • not grouped and the Tasmanian taxable wages paid by your business were at least 50% of your total Australian wages, or
  • grouped with another employer for payroll tax purposes and the Tasmanian taxable wages for the group were at least 50% of the group’s total Australian wages.

This waiver applies to Tasmanian taxable wages paid between 1 July 2021 and 31 December 2021. You have until 31 December 2022 to lodge an application for a payroll tax waiver.
